Split-Fibre Microfibre Meets NOVOC®: A New Approach to SLS Printer Chamber Cleaning
At Speciality Wipes, our latest product development brings together split-fibre microfibre and our trademarked NOVOC® cleaning liquid in a pre-saturated cloth specifically designed for cleaning the chambers of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printers.
The product addresses a particular cleaning challenge: collecting the fine powder particles used in SLS printing while helping to remove stubborn deposits from chamber surfaces.
Designed around the challenges of fine powder
SLS printing uses fine powder as its print medium. Cleaning the chamber requires a cloth that can pick up these small particles and retain them within its structure.
Our new wipe uses split-fibre microfibre to do exactly that. As the cloth passes over a surface, fine dust particles are captured and held within its network of fibres, helping to lift contamination away.
This particle-trapping action is central to the product’s design. We have selected the cloth construction specifically for the demands of specialist chamber cleaning.
Why split fibres make a difference
The structure of a microfibre cloth matters as much as the material itself.
Splitting the fibres creates finer individual segments, increasing the available surface area compared with an equivalent unsplit, continuous-filament construction. This gives the cloth more surface contact and more opportunities to capture fine particles.
For SLS chamber cleaning, that increased surface area serves a practical purpose: it helps the cloth collect the fine powder residues that operators need to remove during cleaning.
Additional cleaning chemistry from NOVOC®
Particle collection is only part of the task. Chamber surfaces can also carry deposits that require additional cleaning action.
Our NOVOC® liquid complements the physical cleaning action of the split-fibre cloth, adding cleaning chemistry to help remove stubborn deposits. The two components work together: the liquid helps loosen deposits, while the microfibre structure collects particles and residue.
Supplied pre-saturated, the cloth brings both elements together in a ready-to-use format, without requiring the operator to apply the liquid separately.
Developed for specialist cleaning
This development reflects our approach at Speciality Wipes: matching cloth construction and cleaning chemistry to a defined application.
For this product, that application is SLS printer chamber cleaning. The result is a purpose-designed wipe that combines fine-particle capture with the additional cleaning action of NOVOC®.
Use should be incorporated into the printer manufacturer’s cleaning procedure, with suitability confirmed for the surfaces being cleaned.
