Case Study 1: Reducing VOCs, Improving Procedures, Increasing Output, and Reducing Waste
An international OEM in the automotive sector approached us with a significant challenge: excessive volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions within their manufacturing facility.
Our initial assessment identified that the root cause lay in their surface preparation process. Operatives were using dry wipes in combination with an open dunk tank of isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
This method resulted in a random and uncontrolled dosage of IPA per application, heavily influenced by individual operator technique, shift patterns, and atmospheric conditions.
As a result, IPA usage was inconsistent, inefficient, and difficult to control.
OUR SOLUTION
We replaced the existing process with a pre-saturated wiping solution supplied in a sealed vacuum pack. Each wipe contained a precisely controlled dose of IPA and was dispensed through a controlled delivery system.
THE RESULTS
- VOC emissions within the operation were reduced by over 50% enabling an increase in production volumes.
- Production efficiency increased through improved process consistency
- Waste was significantly reduced due to controlled solvent usage
- Operator safety was enhanced by eliminating open solvent handling
